Artist of the Month
Paul Revere
Paul Revere
was a very famous American Patriot who participated in the American Revolution. But, did you know he was also a very talented artist? Paul Revere was born in Boston on January 1, 1735. When he grew up he took over his father's business and became a silversmith and engraver. A silversmith is an artist who creates useful things like teapots and bowls out of silver. An engraver is an artist who carves designs and pictures into metal. Paul Revere was very good. Many of his silver creations can be found in museums today!
Mrs. McCarthy says: "Art is much more than painting and drawing!"
Paul Revere was an artist who created "useful" art. See if you can create a piece of "useful" art, maybe a pencil holder!

Why
Teach
Art?
Art helps your child develop in many different ways. Physically, it helps develop coordination, motor abilites, and spatial judgements. Perceptual development occurs as your child learns to use their senses to gather information. Creativity is nutured as your child looks at different ways of expressing thoughts and emotions. Socially, the art room allows for the exchange of ideas, sharing supplies, and working together. The cultural aspect of art allows for the blending and appreciating of the ethnic diversity of our school and our community. Last but not least, art stimultes skills in abstract thinking. This is a direct link and support of our classroom academics.
